Question 1: Have you come to the place in your spiritual life where you know for certain that if you were to die today you would go to heaven, or is that something you would say you are still working on?

Question 2: Suppose you were to die today, and stand before God, and He were to say to you "Why should I let you into My Heaven?"...what would you say to Him?

These are the two most important questions you will ponder today...and in your entire life. Furthermore, these are two questions that you can have a confident answer for when asked. The Bible even says, "These things I have written unto you...that you may KNOW that you have eternal life" (1 Jn. 5:13). Eternal life is a "know-for-sure" issue!

FIRST...You must understand that heaven is an absolutely "free gift" (Rom. 6:23). Since it is a gift, it cannot be earned or deserved. The Bible says that eternal life "is not a result of works, so that no one should boast" (Eph. 2:9).

SECONDLY...You must understand that the Bible declares that every man is a sinner. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23). Since this is true, it logically follows that no man can save himself. He cannot be "perfect" like God (Matt. 5:48).

NEXT...You need to have a right view of God. First John 4:8 clearly states that "God is love." That means that He is merciful--He doesn't want to punish us. But the same Bible says about the same God that He is also "just"--He must punish our sin. "He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished" (Ex. 34:7). Hence, we have quite a problem...don't we?

BUT...God solved our problem in Jesus Christ. He alone is the infinite God-man...meaning He is God (Jn. 1:1, 14). What did He do for us? Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay the penalty for our sin and to purchase a place in heaven for us. The Bible puts it this way: "He [God] made Him [Christ] who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Cor. 5:21). This is the gift of eternal life! The question of the hour is...How do we receive it?

FINALLY...You must understand that this gift is received by faith. Now we are not talking about a temporary faith nor a mere head knowledge of facts. Much more. The Bible says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved" (Act 16:31). This means trusting in Jesus Christ ALONE for salvation. This means a refusal to trust my own good works to get me into heaven. It is believing in who Christ is and what He did on your behalf in His death and resurrection and receiving Him as the Lord and Savior of your life (Rom. 10:9-13). Such a faith will work a change in your life known as repentance--turning from your sin and turning to Christ (Acts 20:21).

WELL...What will you do with the greatest news you have ever heard about the greatest Person who ever lived who is offering you the greatest gift you have ever been offered? There is only one sensible answer--receive it. Bow your head and pray. As you pray to Christ, acknowledge you are a sinner...repent of your sin and ask Him to forgive you...ask Him for His gift of eternal life...and acknowledge Him as your Lord and Savior.
